Castle Tavern

The Várcsárda has been waiting for its guests for decades in a beautiful environment at the foot of the Sümeg Castle!

The building itself is history, its walls preserve many legends! Mór Kisfaludy was born and lived in this house, a Hungarian Lieutenant Colonel of '48, who belongs to the real Hungarian heroes and was the nephew of the poet Sándor Kisfaludy! ln the 1900s, the tavern has been successfully functioning, it was the gastronomic center of the busy city, the venue of Bohemian parties. Not one, even today successful and full of professional humility, has learned the profession here. By this time it became the property of the Papp Family, and then, as in the Sümeg Castle, life has returned also here too.

The building has undergone several renovations and then expansions, but in its atmosphere it still preserves the old, Hungarian form. Today it is one of the jewels of the castle garden as part of the first historical adventure park, next to the Sümeg Castle and Hotel Kapitány**** Superior Wellness!

The Tavern awaits its Guests all year long! In summer, in the shade of walnut trees, furthermore in winter, in addition to the heat of the tile stove, local and Hungarian foods, homemade specialties, oven fried foods and delicious Hungarian wines can be tasted! Most of the raw materials are prepared from the meals come from the model farm of the Castle Captain. The delicacies, ham, sausages and bacon made of pigs raised on their own farm, gives an unforgettable taste to the food served here!

Under the Tavern building can be found the Great Knight Hall, which can lodge about 400 people, and is also an ideal place for weddings, and similar large-scale events, even supplemented with a Historical Equestrian Games and other programs.

In the stables and farmyard around the inn, you can see our native domestic animals and their little ones, and the medieval playground next to the inn has undoubtedly become a children's favorite in recent years!
